Sue Schuerman, PT, PhD, GCS
Director of Clinical Education

Dr. Schuerman received her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1975. She earned her MBA from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth in 1991 and her PhD from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1998.
Dr. Schuerman has been a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy (GCS) since 1993 having re-certified in 2004. 

Research Interests

Balance, falls and fall prevention in older clients, knee osteoarthritis and interventions in women who are postmenopausal, interventions for ataxia post cerebellar CVA, and in osteoporosis and posture.

Professional experience

Dr. Schuerman began her practice in acute care at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.  Later she joined a physical therapy management company in 1979 working as a physical therapy manager and therapist in several hospitals in Texas, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania until 1991. She then joined the faculty at the Division of Physical Therapy Education, University of Nebraska Medical Center and served as an assistant professor until 1999. She has practiced in a variety of geriatric settings including acute, outpatient, rehab, home health, and skilled nursing facilities. She continues to provide per diem physical therapy services for Boulder City Hospital in Boulder City, NV.
Dr. Schuerman served as adjunct faculty in the Physical Therapy Department at UNLV beginning in August 2000, served as visiting assistant professor 2005-2006, was appointed to a tenure track position 8/1/2006 and was recently appointed to the position of Director of Clinical Education.
